Combining a professional service with a personable approach
At Core Construction we are committed to providing our clients with a progressive, cost-effective service whilst maintaining the attentive values that have always been central to the company.

About us

Core Construction are a groundworks and civil engineering company based in Witham, Essex and cover Essex and the surrounding counties in addition to north and east London.

The company was established by Will Hendry in 2011, with the aim of offering clients a professional service equal to that of larger, regional groundworks contractors whilst retaining the personable approach of a family business. Striking that balance is central to how we approach each project.

What we offer

To date we have completed a diverse range of projects in terms of value, scope and complexity. We work in residential, commercial, educational, industrial and healthcare sectors and recognise the challenges and constraints that these present.

Our clients range from national housing developers, regional building contractors and self-builders. Core Construction pride themselves on client retention, forging relationships and offering the same enthusiastic service for repeat business as we do for opportunities with new clients.

As part of our services we can undertake the following elements of a project. These can be in isolation or as part of an overall package:

  • Roads and sewers
  • Piling (sheet, CFA, open bored, driven etc.)
  • All works up to DPC level (foundations, sub-structure brickwork, ground floors)
  • Drainage and service ducting
  • External works (driveways, car park, paths and patios, landscaping)
  • Demolition and site clearance
  • Remediation of brownfield sites
  • Reinforced concrete basements/structures
  • Deep drainage and sewer connections
  • Temporary and enabling works
  • Bulk excavation and earthworks
  • Stormwater attenuation tanks and SUDS systems
  • Vehicular crossovers and streetworks

Health & Safety and training

Working safely is paramount, and to underline this Core Construction currently hold CHAS and SMAS accreditations.

To obtain these a rigorous application procedure is completed, detailing company processes, procedures, training and recent accident records. In addition, the company has the benefit of an external health and safety consultant to advise on legislation changes and developments within the industry. As a minimum all operatives have CSCS cards and have either completed (or are working towards) manual handling, abrasive wheels, hand-arm vibration and cable avoidance qualifications. Additionally plant operators hold CPCS/NPORS qualifications relevant to the machine which they operate.

Additionally, we have supervisors and teams of operatives who hold NRSWA qualifications which enables them to carry out works in the public highway.

Plant

Our current fleet includes 360° excavators ranging from 1.8 to 14.5 tonne, a variety of dumpers and 80-120cm ride-on rollers. We strive to own as much of our own plant as possible, giving us more control over delivery and collection timings as well as ensuring the equipment is both mechanically sound and creates the correct impression on our client’s sites. To supplement this, we have a reliable supply chain of plant hire companies who can serve our working area.

Case Studies

See below for a selection of recent projects – both current and completed – which demonstrate our versatility working in multiple sectors on projects which have varying demands in terms of cost, time and quality.

HARDINGS FARM, FRYERNING

£1

D J Developments

Our works included the piling mats, CFA piling, piling attendance, ground beams and substructure works to the 7 plots, foul water and storm water drainage and external works. In addition to that, we were responsible for the enabling works, excavation, blinding and backfilling of almost 10,000 sqft of basements to allow a specialist third-party contractor to construct them. Due to the rural location of the site, we also supplied and installed a foul water treatment plant so that the foul water could be processed and then discharged into an existing ditch at the rear of the development.

BOYLES COURT, BRENTWOOD

£1

Marden Homes

We continued our ongoing relationship with Marden Homes on this prestigious project. The project consisted of 30 plots in total – 16 plots were new build with the remaining 14 plots being made up through the conversion of an existing listed building. Our works included the piling mats, CFA piling, piling attendance, groundbeams and substructure works, foul water and storm water drainage, external works and alteration works to the existing building. Given the nature of the project, a particular emphasis was placed on the external finishes to ensure that it was both high-end and in keeping with the development.

WATER LANE, STEEPLE BUMPSTEAD

£1

Enterprise Property Group

This was our first project for Enterprise Property Group – who has since become a regular and valued client. The works here included adoptable FW drainage, private access roads, strip foundations and substructure works to the 28 plots, foul water and storm water drainage and external works. We also formed two relatively large storm water swales in the open space areas to act as attenuation and comply with the SUD’s requirements for the scheme.
